Independence is an essential part of our daily lives helping shape our personal confidence while offering a sense of purpose and fulfillment. For individuals with disabilities or medical conditions it can be challenging to stay safe and maintain that independence. Whether it’s the ability to leave your house and go for a walk or something as simple as feeling safe while living alone, independence for seniors and individuals with IDD is important.

With assistive technology like BoundaryCare, we are able to bridge the gap, offering security and peace of mind without limiting independence. BoundaryCare provides location tracking, fall detection, real-time alerts for seizure symptoms and alerts for other medical conditions. BoundaryCare can give autonomy to the loved ones while giving families peace of mind.

In this post, we’ll share inspiring real-life accounts from BoundaryCare clients who have reclaimed control of their daily lives and embraced newfound independence.

I like that the BoundaryCare Watch is based on the Apple Watch. It doesn’t feel bulky, which is a big improvement over other watches I’ve worn. The BoundaryCare Watch helps me feel safe and more connected to my family, giving me a greater sense of independence and security. In my daily life, it’s been a reliable tool that keeps me safe.

Story #1: Peace of Mind for Emily and Her Mother

For Emily’s mother, nighttimes used to bring her anxiety and fear around her daughter’s medical condition. Emily experiences nighttime seizures that cause her heart rate to spike and oxygen levels to drop. When this happens Emily’s mother needs to be notified immediately so she can get her daughter medical attention. She fears that in the middle of the night she may not know if Emily is having a seizure and not be able to get her the help she needs.

How BoundaryCare Helps with Seizure Symptom Detection:

  • BoundaryCare is designed to detect sudden changes in heart rate, oxygen levels, and movement. When one of these triggers takes place it sends loud and persistent alerts to Emily’s mother’s iPhone.
  • If Emily’s mother doesn’t respond it will notify a secondary caregiver.

Nights are now less stressful for Emily’s mother knowing she or a secondary caregiver will be notified and can get Emily the help she needs.

Story #2: Mitch’s Path to Emotional Safety

Mitch is a young boy with IDD. He will occasionally become overwhelmed and is prone to emotional outbursts. When these episodes take place he can become a danger to himself and those around him. Talking with one of his parents will often deescalate the outburst, but his parents aren’t always near to know when he is having an episode. Mitch will also wander off and leave his house or school if he is feeling overwhelmed. Mitch’s parents want him to have some level of independence but they worry that giving him certain freedoms will impact his safety.

How BoundaryCare Helps Loved Ones with IDD:

  • BoundaryCare is designed to notify a caregiver when a loved one is experiencing signs of agitation such as an increased heart rate. This will allow Mitch’s parents to intervene early by calling Mitch’s watch that will automatically answer
  • BoundaryCare will send safe zone alerts if Mitch leaves a designated area, so his parents can quickly locate and assist him.

Mitch’s parents can now feel confident in supporting him and keeping him safe while still giving him enough freedom that he feels empowered as an individual.
